I am lucky
Being in a rather low point can help remind you of the good things. Like all the people who supported and helped me, went out of their way to send me instructing business, listened to ranting, were generous with their time, put things in proper perspective with kindness, and made me laugh. I like my task -- instruct to gain experiences, use whatever resources I have to help others further their own goals, try to contribute rather than detract, and maybe move on to a different flying job myself one day if I can. Because otherwise, it can be hard to cope with some of the other goings-on -- how people go around behind your back and tell others not to fly with you. The greedy desperation of people clawing for every flight hour. Illegal 135. I don't want to get caught up in any of that. It's only flying.

Here's a fun question -- What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Do the same things, hopefully just a whole lot better.

There are times when one can't help feeling a bit low but you don't have much reason to. You have made an amazing progress and from your posts it's evident that you are skilled, knowledgeable and a very concerned instructor. Now if only I could find a CFII like you near where I live.

Here's a fun question -- What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Play the lottery I guess.

A more interesting question is what would you do even if you knew you'd probably fail?

If you have the guts to try something you've already succeeded. The rest is just details for the stories you get to tell when you're old and rattling on like Abe Simpson.

There's nothing more pathetic than listening to somebody talk about what they wished they'd done, or should have done, but didn't because they were afraid of failing.

Besides, the more colossal the screw-up the funnier the story.

Well, I like the "buy a lottery ticket" answer, mostly because it enables many other things (not all things though).

But the first answer that came to mind was "design and build a home-built space ship and fly it to the moon. Make the first non-governmental moonbase."

I figure if I'm going to have a crazy dream, might as well make it a big one.

BTW, you have a good approach to things. Don't let 'em grind you down.

What would I do if I knew it couldn't fail?

Start my own business and grow it to the point where it provided a healthy income, and eventually have enough people working for me that it becomes a self sustaining venture so I could sit back and enjoy life for the smaller things, rather then worrying about the big things.

Hmm -- lots of these had to do with easy money in some way. I suppose lots of money is the ultimate freedom. I like the moon base one, although I almost can't imagine it being private. Robert Heinlein would be proud.

And I don't think I'd base jump even if I knew there was no possibility of failure. Well, maybe. Nah.

Since I'm one of the few people who CAN'T fail, I think I'm in a good position to answer this question. Hehe.. who am I kiddin'?
